  • In pattern, 8 stitches and 8 rows = 4 inches.
  • Slight variations in gauge will change finished size a bit.

Stitch Pattern:

  • Garter stitch—knit every row.

  1. Working with two skeins as one, cast on 70 sts.
  2. Row 1: K across row: 70 sts.
  3. Remaining rows: Repeat Row 1 until eight skeins of yarn have been used, leaving enough yarn remaining to bind off sts.
  4. Bind off all sts loosely.
  5. Use yarn or tapestry needle to weave in all loose ends.
  6. Fringe: 1. From remaining skein of yarn, cut 420 12-in. lengths of yarn.
  7. Working with three strands as one, fold strands in half. Use tip of knitting needle or crochet hook to pull fold of yarn through the first stitch on one narrow end of afghan. Then pull yarn ends through loop and tighten to secure fringe. Repeat, adding fringe to remaining sts on each narrow end of afghan.
  8. Trim fringe evenly along each end of afghan.
  9. Notes: Approximately 1350 yards of yarn are needed to make the afghan. Purchase an odd number of skeins and use one for the fringe. Knit the afghan using two skeins as one.
  10. When working with other yarns, cut all of the fringe before starting to knit the afghan to make sure you have enough yarn left for the fringe.

Finished Size: Afghan measures approximately 37 inches wide x 67 inches long.
